Our Smart Kid - Blogging About Our Smart Kid

We have decided to write a blog about our smart kid, and document and highlight things about him that are of interest or that come to mind.  It's not often as parents that we get to document everything that our children do, or tell our kids about them.  We're always being told as well that we have a smart child on our hands, so we decided to make this blog to document not only for us to remember down the line, but for our child to reflect back on and see his own progression, and why we, and many others call him a smart kid.  You're welcome to join us as we write about our son, and should another child come into our lives, as we add on another smart kid to the blog as well!  Enjoy!

Hooked On Phonics Works For Zay

Isaiah started watching Hooked on Phonics roughly a year ago when he turned one. One day on YouTube, I stumbled across "The Letter B” song. I instantly fell in love. Isaiah was nearby, so I showed him the video and he fell in love right away! The big smile on his face said it all. When the song finished he demanded "again!”, so I played it again and again and again. It wasn’t long before he started singing along. I was lucky enough to get him on video, as you can see below.

I decided to look for more videos to view on YouTube. I found "The W Song”, "Rhyme Time”, "The Sound of an A” and several others. I was getting hooked, and so was Isaiah. Eventually, I decided to buy Hooked on Phonics for Preschoolers. Mind you, this is meant for 3 and 4 year olds, but I believe that because we started Zay on it so early, he has already mastered it having turned 2 only less than a month ago. I told German to go ahead and order the Hooked on Phonics for Kindergarten. Can’t wait to see how Isaiah does with it.

Before deciding on Hooked on Phonics, we considered buying "Your Baby Can Read”. Actually, we did buy it...Only to return it a couple of weeks later. First of all, the video was very boring. I figured if I was getting bored watching it, so was Isaiah. The only interesting thing was the "Head, Shoulder, Knees, and Toes” song which I can easily find on Youtube. In case you haven’t noticed, I go to Youtube for a lot of Isaiah’s educational entertainment. Lol. Any way, not only was "You Baby Can Read” boring, I also felt that it was a terrible way to teach MY baby to read. I want Isaiah to learn the fundamentals of reading by sounding out letters instead of merely memorizing words. That is why I love "Hooked on Phonics”! :)
